• Studied Biology, Chemistry and Physics in Mainz and Marburg in Germany.
• Graduation and postdoctoral lecture qualification in zoology in Mainz.
• After doctorate research focus on neural information processing, psychological physics, behavior and perception.
• External collaboration for Battelle-Institute in Frankfurt, Germany and research stays in Pisa, Italy.
• 1988 - 1989 visiting professor at the University of California, San Francisco.
• Since 1990 Associate Professor and head of the „Experimental Neurobiology Lab“ at the Institute for Neuroinformatics of the Ruhr-University, Bochum.
• Repeating research visits at the University of California, San Francisco and the University of Texas, Dallas.
• Research focus on: learning, aging, tactile sensation and haptics, perception and developing new types of learning.
